Extragonadal Germ Cell Tumor
Overview
Extragonadal germ cell tumors are rare tumors found in the reproductive organs (testicles in males, ovaries in females), that travel to other parts of the body outside of the ovary or testicle (e.g. brain, chest, abdomen, or tailbone). It is most commonly found in young males, age 20 or older. On risk factor for this condition is having Klinefelter syndrome. Symptoms of extragonadal cell tumors are varied and include chest pain, breathing problems, coughing, fever, headache, or trouble seeing or moving the eyes. Treatment depends on whether the size of the tumor, location of tumor, blood levels, the way the tumor responds to initial treatment, whether the tumor has spread, and whether the cancer has just been diagnosed or has come back. Treatment options include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, or possible clinical trials.
