Fetal Indomethacin Syndrome

Common Name(s)

Fetal Indomethacin Syndrome

Fetal indomethacin syndrome can occur in a fetus or newborn when a pregnant woman takes indomethacin during pregnancy. Indomethacin is an anti-inflammatory medication. The effects of indomethacin on a developing fetus vary depending on the dose of indomethacin the mother takes and when during pregnancy she takes it. Some studies have shown that indomethacin may cause heart defects in the developing fetus. Pregnant women should ask their doctor before taking indomethacin during pregnancy.
