Fetal Left Ventricular Aneurysm

Common Name(s)

Fetal Left Ventricular Aneurysm

A fetal left ventricular aneurysm is a rare heart defect that may be detected through an ultrasound of a developing fetus. In a left ventricular aneurysm, the left ventrical (one of four chambers of the heart) is blocked, and blood cannot properly flow through the heart to the rest of the body. A left ventricular aneurysm is very dangerous to the growing baby, but technologies to detect it earlier during pregnancy are getting better. Treatment and outcome for the fetus depends on when the aneurysm is detected, how big it is, and how healthy the fetus is otherwise.
