Lipomatosis central non-encapsulated is a rare condition characterized by fat deposits on the skin and mucosal linings of the neck and shoulders. The formation of these bumps is caused by problems breaking down lipids in the body due to the absence of an enzyme called ceramidase. The skin of individuals with this condition may often become inflamed due to these bumps. Bumps in the neck and shoulders causing neck pain and reduced neck mobility. The condition has been found to be more prone in alcoholics. Doctors diagnose this condition early, since the symptoms are visibly apparent. Due to the variety of symptoms, treatment is given on a case-by-case basis and depends on the needs of the patient. Doctors often provide analgesic (pain) medication to relieve an individual's pain.
